Nigeria’s table tennis star Aruna Quadri has once again showcased his status as one of Africa’s top sporting ambassadors by winning a bronze medal at the 2026 ITTF Africa Cup in Benghazi, Libya, on February 9, 2026.
Although his bid for a sixth continental title ended in a dramatic seven-set semi-final loss to Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa, the podium finish earned him a qualification spot for the 2026 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China, ensuring Nigeria’s representation on the global stage.
Aruna’s trailblazing career includes being the first African to break into the world’s top 10 and the first to reach the quarter-finals of both the Olympic Games (Rio 2016) and the ITTF World Cup (2014), cementing his legacy as a true pioneer in African table tennis.
