The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works undertake critical rehabilitation of failed sections of the road.
The repair works will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes. According to the government, the project will commence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and conclude on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, spanning four weeks.
To minimise traffic disruption, the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases.
Phase One – Abeokuta-Bound Traffic
The first phase, scheduled from February 11 to March 4, 2026, will cover the section from U-Turn Bus Stop inward to Sango Tollgate.
During this period, traffic from Lagos/Abule-Egba towards Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres away from the active work zone, with full access restored after the construction area. Rehabilitation will be executed one lane at a time. Upon completion of one half, traffic will be redirected to the rehabilitated section while work continues on the remaining half.
Motorists travelling on the Lagos-bound carriageway are expected to experience free flow of traffic throughout this phase.
Phase Two – Lagos-Bound Traffic
The second phase will run from March 4 to March 11, 2026, covering the Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction axis.
Traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate towards Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted to one half of the road, about 20 metres from the work zone, with normal flow restored after the construction area. Similar to Phase One, rehabilitation will be carried out in halves, with traffic redirected to completed sections as work progresses.
Motorists travelling towards Abeokuta are expected to enjoy uninterrupted movement during this phase.
The Lagos State Government assured residents that adequate traffic management measures would be implemented throughout the duration of the project.
Advisory
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, comply with traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic management officials on duty. The government appealed for patience and understanding from road users, noting that the repairs are essential for improved safety and smoother travel on the expressway
