Communiqué issued at the end of the NAWOJ South West (B-Zone) Zonal Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, 12th February 2026.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) South West (B-Zone) held its Zonal Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, marking the fifth summit under the current administration of Comrade Adeola Adekunle Omosola. The meeting was attended by Chairpersons and Secretaries from all South West states and was presided over by the Vice Chairperson, Comrade Adeola Adekunle Omosola.
After extensive deliberations, the summit resolved as follows:
1. Theme and Commendation
Deliberating on the theme, “Women Driving Peace and Conflict Resolution in Nigeria: Her Voice, Her Power,” NAWOJ B-Zone commended the Oyo State Chapter for successfully hosting the Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) meeting and for its commitment to advancing women’s leadership in peacebuilding and national development.
2. Public Health Advocacy
The Association urged women and parents to make their wards available for the final phase of the Measles-Rubella mop-up vaccination currently ongoing in some states. Parents were encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their children from life-threatening diseases.
NAWOJ also emphasized the importance of ensuring that eligible female children receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a preventive measure against cervical cancer.
3. Insecurity Concerns
The house expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity across the country, particularly in Kwara State and its environs. It called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to curb extremist activities that continue to claim lives and destroy property in the state.
Members also raised alarm over reported cases of house-to-house abductions in parts of the South West region. The Association called for enhanced security awareness campaigns by relevant stakeholders and urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times.
4. Voter Registration and PVC Collection
NAWOJ B-Zone advocated increased awareness of the ongoing voter registration exercise. The Association encouraged women of voting age to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The Summit concluded in Ibadan on a positive note, with members expressing hope and prayers for a peaceful nation. The house reaffirmed its commitment to impactful engagement across all sectors and encouraged law-abiding citizens to contribute meaningfully toward building a better Nigeria.
