The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Olufolarin Ogunsanwo as the 6th Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the university and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel A. Fanu.
Oba Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, succeeds Gbolahan Elias, SAN, whose tenure as the 5th Chancellor recently expired. The Lagos State Government and the LASU community commended Elias for his dedicated service and the distinction he brought to the office during his tenure.
According to the statement, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law of 2004 (as amended), which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor of the university.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s tenure will run for a single term of five years, commencing on February 13, 2026, with eligibility for one renewal.
The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of LASU congratulated the new Chancellor, expressing confidence that his leadership and experience would significantly advance the university’s vision and mission.
