Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted 22 packages of suspected cocaine valued at approximately ₦1 billion along the Badagry–Seme border corridor.
The seizure was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m. by officers of the Seme Area Command during a midnight operation targeting cross-border smuggling activities.
According to a statement issued by the Service, the suspected cocaine was discovered in a Toyota Highlander, concealed in a specially constructed bunker beneath the vehicle’s axle. One suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The NCS said the interception underscores intensified enforcement efforts along key smuggling routes and highlights ongoing inter-agency collaboration in combating drug trafficking across Nigeria’s borders.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Timi Bomodi, stated that the operation reflects the Service’s firm commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
The Service reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations and strengthen surveillance across border corridors to curb illicit trade and protect national security.
