The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to conduct a mock accreditation and results upload exercise ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The mock exercise is set for Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. across 289 selected polling units, according to a statement signed by INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for the FCT. The commission said the exercise is intended to test accreditation procedures and the results upload process, ensuring a smooth and credible election.
Voters in the designated polling units are encouraged to participate with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), as their involvement will help fine-tune preparations ahead of the main poll. A full list of the selected polling units is available on INEC’s official website.
Meanwhile, Prof. Joash Amupitan, INEC’s Chairman, convened a security meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on election security to brief agencies ahead of the FCT polls and the June Ekiti State governorship election.
Senior security officials, including Kayode Egbetokun and Nuhu Ribadu, attended the meeting. INEC emphasized that the agencies should monitor vote buying, enforce electoral laws, and ensure the safety of voters, election personnel, and materials during the polls.
The commission reassured residents of the FCT of its readiness to conduct free, fair, and credible Area Council elections on February 21, 2026.
