The Oyo State Police Command has thwarted a planned bandit attack on Elebe Village in Irawo town, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, neutralising two suspected attackers during a gun battle.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence from a resident who reported that about 10 armed suspects had camped at a farm settlement with plans to attack the community at night.
The Divisional Police Officer of Tede Division alerted the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who immediately deployed additional tactical teams to the area.
Security operatives, working alongside local hunters (Agbekoya group), stormed the hideout. The suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a gun duel in which two were killed while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene include:
- One cut-to-size locally made pistol
- Live and expended ammunition (including 7.62mm AK-47 shells)
