President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young professionals under the National Health Fellowship Programme to serve the nation with honour, humility and courage, assuring them that his administration will work diligently to secure their career paths and create opportunities for leadership.
The President made the charge on Tuesday at the first National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health in Abuja, where he described the Fellows as a critical force in driving Nigeria’s health sector transformation under the Renewed National Health Alliance.
Selected from all 774 local government areas across the country, the second cohort of National Health Fellows is tasked with strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots. President Tinubu expressed pride in the young professionals, noting that their commitment reflects a future Nigerians can confidently look forward to.
He commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, state governments and development partners for sustaining the initiative, emphasizing that talent and competence must remain the foundation for national development.
Addressing the Fellows directly, the President urged them to work in synergy with traditional and religious leaders to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. He encouraged them to provide structure where systems are weak, deploy data where clarity is lacking, and inspire hope in communities seeking improved healthcare access.
President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to universal health coverage and national security, stressing that hope remains central to Nigeria’s renewal agenda.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, presented the 2025 State of Health Report and praised the President’s policy direction, describing the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative as ambitious and inclusive.
The summit attracted prominent traditional and religious leaders, including the Ooni of Ife, the Olu of Warri, the Emir of Zazzau, and the Tor Tiv, alongside representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, who pledged support for community healthcare advancement.
The event underscored a united national effort—government, youth, and faith leaders working together—to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system and expand access to quality services for all citizens.
