The Senate Committee on Capital Market on Tuesday questioned the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) over spending N16 million on cleaning and fumigation in 2025.
IST Chairman Aminu Junaidu explained that fumigation is conducted quarterly to prevent rodents from damaging sensitive documents, while cleaning services are outsourced across zonal offices.
The tribunal also reported N6.13 million spent on office stationery and computer consumables, with fees for certified copies remitted directly to the Federal Government Treasury Single Account. Other 2025 expenditures included electricity (N981M), internet access (N702M), motor vehicle maintenance (N3.4M), and local training (N9.5M).
Senator Osita Izunaso demanded clarification on the high cleaning costs amid limited funding for publicity, while Senator Ogoshi Onawo criticised continued stationery expenses despite digitisation trends.
