The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that all cash transactions at Nigerian airports will cease effective February 29, 2026, in line with the Federal Government’s cashless policy.
In a memorandum dated February 3, 2026, signed by FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, the authority stated that the directive follows a Federal Executive Council decision requiring all government agencies to adopt fully electronic payment systems.
The memo emphasized:
“All cash collections or transactions in the conduct of FAAN’s official businesses MUST STOP with effect from February 29, 2026.”
FAAN has instructed all departments to deploy approved digital payment channels immediately, warning that failure to comply after the deadline will attract strict penalties.
This initiative is part of broader efforts, such as Operation Go Cashless, aimed at modernizing airport payment systems, improving transparency, efficiency, and revenue integrity across FAAN facilities.
Travelers and airport service users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with digital payment options to ensure smooth transactions when the policy takes effect.
