Officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have searched the Abuja home of Nasir El-Rufai, following his recent arrest.
The development comes shortly after El-Rufai was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Earlier reports indicated that ICPC operatives took him into custody on Wednesday, after he had honored an EFCC invitation on Monday.
In a statement issued Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson J. Okor Odey confirmed that the former Kaduna State governor was in the commission’s custody as of the close of business on February 18, 2026, in connection with ongoing investigations. The agency said additional details would be released in line with its procedures.
On Thursday night, El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed via social media that the former governor’s Aso Drive residence had been searched by the ICPC. His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the operation as unlawful and a violation of due process and fundamental rights.
As of the time of reporting, authorities had not clarified whether a warrant was obtained or provided further information about the outcome of the search.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State House of Assembly previously recommended an investigation into El-Rufai over alleged fraud totaling N432 billion—an accusation he has denied.
