The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has realised ₦1.585 trillion in revenue from 51 firms participating in its Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme.
This was revealed on Thursday by the Service’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr Abdullahi Maiwada, who noted that the programme contributed 21.77 per cent of the NCS’s total revenue collection of ₦7.281 trillion in 2025.
He explained that revenue generated after the companies received AEO certification rose significantly from ₦1.222 trillion recorded prior to their enrolment in the scheme. This represents an increase of ₦362 billion, or 29.68 per cent, as of October 27, 2025.
According to Maiwada, the milestone highlights both improved compliance and enhanced trade facilitation under the initiative. An evaluation report on the programme showed an average compliance rate of about 85 per cent among participating companies, with scores ranging from 60 per cent to 100 per cent.
He added that the assessment process was conducted using strict and transparent methodologies in line with the World Customs Organization SAFE Framework of Standards and the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
Customs duties collected from participating firms increased by 85.66 per cent, a development attributed to stronger compliance and higher volumes of legitimate trade.
In terms of trade facilitation, the AEO scheme significantly improved efficiency, cutting average cargo clearance time from 168 hours to 41 hours — a 75 per cent reduction.
