President Bola Tinubu has called on all stakeholders to ensure peaceful and orderly elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano State, and Rivers State this Saturday.
In a statement issued Friday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President also appealed to security agencies to show restraint, and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take actions that would build public confidence in the electoral process.
President Tinubu encouraged eligible voters to come out and cast their ballots without fear, noting that democracy prospers in an environment of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He appealed to voters, security personnel, and INEC officials to perform their duties calmly and professionally.
The President further called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from violence, provocative language, and any behavior that could undermine the credibility of the polls.
Tinubu warned security forces against any form of heavy-handedness or intimidation that could disenfranchise voters or erode public trust, stressing that their role is to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the vote.
He also urged INEC to take necessary steps to enhance voter confidence by ensuring timely accreditation, smooth voting procedures, accurate collation, and prompt transmission of results in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upholding free, fair, and credible elections, Tinubu expressed confidence that the elections will reflect the will of the people and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process.
INEC is scheduled to oversee elections in the six area councils of the FCT, along with bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers State and in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
