The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Josh Amupitan, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that their votes will count in the ongoing area council elections, reaffirming that results will be electronically transmitted to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
Amupitan gave the assurance on Saturday while monitoring the elections at several polling units within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). He noted that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was functioning effectively.
He emphasized that the electronic transmission of results is in line with existing electoral laws.
The INEC chairman also commended commission officials for the timely distribution of election materials and observed that the process had remained peaceful across the FCT.
According to him, conducting credible area council elections in the FCT will boost public confidence in grassroots democracy, especially as the country looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.
