In a significant relief for subscribers, MultiChoice has announced that there will be no DStv price increase in April 2026 — marking the first time in years the broadcaster has skipped its customary annual hike.
The decision follows the company’s transition to new ownership under France-based Groupe Canal+ and reflects a strategic shift aimed at rebuilding its subscriber base after sustained losses.
Speaking to TechCentral, MultiChoice Group CEO David Mignot confirmed that an April increase is not planned. He noted that the company’s current priority is subscriber growth, adding that this is not the right time to raise prices.
MultiChoice has faced mounting challenges in recent years, including economic pressures, increased competition from streaming platforms, and backlash over previous price adjustments — most recently in April 2025, when some premium packages rose by between 2.1% and 7.9%.
Although the April freeze has been confirmed, the company indicated that pricing adjustments later in 2026 have not been entirely ruled out, particularly if currency fluctuations or other cost pressures arise.
The move is being viewed as a welcome development for South African subscribers who have grown accustomed to predictable annual increases. It also aligns with Canal+’s broader turnaround strategy, which includes decoder price reductions and enhanced subscription features aimed at improving customer retention.
For now, DStv customers can expect their monthly bills to remain unchanged as the company focuses on stabilizing and growing its subscriber base.
