The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Nuhu, as the winner of the Kwali Area Council Chairmanship election held on Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The result was announced at the final collation centre in Kwali on Sunday morning. According to INEC, Nuhu secured 17,032 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Haruna Pai of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 8,575 votes.
In a similar development, the electoral body declared Christopher Maikalangu of the APC as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.
The results for AMAC were announced at the commission’s area office in Karu at about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Collation Officer for AMAC, Andrew Abue, confirmed that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, was returned elected after polling 40,295 votes out of a total of 62,861 valid votes cast in the election.
The victories further consolidate the APC’s hold in key area councils within the FCT.
