Panic has engulfed residents of Dorowa Babuje in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening.
Sources said the assailants invaded the community at about 7:30 p.m., firing sporadically at residents.
A community member, who requested anonymity, told reporters that the gunmen stormed a local relaxation spot and opened fire indiscriminately. Seven persons are feared dead, while at least one other victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, a community leader associated with the Berom Youth Moulders Association, said seven persons were brutally killed in the attack, which he described as being carried out by armed assailants at Ratatis in Dorowa Babuje.
He added that the attack, which occurred around 7:27 p.m., left three others seriously injured. The victims were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Tengwong said further details were still sketchy but promised to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Efforts to reach security operatives for official comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
