President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the by-elections conducted in Rivers State and Kano State.
The President urged the victorious candidates to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication, describing the mandate given to them by the electorate as a sacred trust.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the accomplishments have translated into political gains for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as its Kano and Rivers State chapters, on their victories at the polls.
The President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and voters for ensuring the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections. He praised the contestants for their courage and discipline, stating that democracy is strengthened by active participation and healthy competition.
Tinubu affirmed that the smooth conduct of the polls reinforces Nigeria’s democratic institutions and culture, while urging INEC to continue improving the electoral process to achieve even higher standards.
INEC conducted chairmanship and councillorship elections across the six area councils of the FCT. By-elections were also held in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies in Rivers State, as well as in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
The commission declared the APC winner in Abuja Municipal, Kwali, and Bwari Area Councils. In Gwagwalada Area Council, however, Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious, polling 22,165 votes to defeat Yahaya Shehu of the APC, who secured 17,788 votes, according to the Returning Officer, Philip Akpen.
