The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won five of the six chairmanship seats contested in the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in one council.
Results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that the APC won the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kwali and Kuje, while the PDP triumphed in Gwagwalada.
Gwagwalada
In Gwagwalada Area Council, PDP candidate Mohammed Kasim polled 22,165 votes to defeat APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who secured 17,788 votes.

The Returning Officer, Philip Akpen, declared Kasim duly elected.
Bwari
APC candidate Joshua Ishaku won in Bwari with 18,466 votes.

Returning Officer Mohammed Nurudeen announced Ishaku as winner.
Abuja Municipal (AMAC)
Incumbent Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was re-elected with 40,295 votes.

- SDP – 2,185
- NNPP – 1,694
The AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, declared Maikalangu returned elected.
Abaji
APC’s Umar Abdullahi Abubakar won with 15,536 votes, defeating PDP and ADC candidates.

Kwali
APC candidate Nuhu Daniel polled 17,032 votes to defeat PDP’s Haruna Pai, who scored 8,575 votes.
Kuje
In Kuje Area Council, APC’s Danjuma Shekwolo secured 17,269 votes to defeat PDP’s candidate, who polled 15,824 votes.
Other result:
- APGA – 4,305
With the outcome, the APC maintains dominance across most of the FCT councils, winning five out of six chairmanship positions in the election held on February 21, 2026.
