The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, FAAN disclosed that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to contain the fire and ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.
According to the authority, its firefighting unit is actively working to bring the situation under control. It added that no loss of life has been recorded.
Emergency operations remain ongoing, with firefighting teams continuing efforts to fully extinguish the blaze. Authorities have also commenced the orderly evacuation of passengers and airport personnel as a precautionary measure.
To bolster response efforts, FAAN activated mutual aid arrangements and sought reinforcements from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and other relevant emergency agencies.
FAAN reassured the public that no casualties have been reported and emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to protect lives and property.
