In a major shake-up of Nigeria’s policing leadership, President Bola Tinubu has reportedly removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police (IGP). Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu, currently heading the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos, is set to take over as his successor.
Sources indicate that Egbetokun was summoned to the Presidential Villa to prepare handover notes. The announcement reportedly sparked celebrations among officers at police headquarters. The move comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding Egbetokun’s tenure, including debates over retirement age, allegations of nepotism, and questions about the management of public funds.
The leadership change marks a significant shift in the Nigeria Police Force, following prolonged public pressure and calls for accountability. Official confirmation from the Presidency or police authorities is awaited.
