The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially launched the “Flow with Confidence Sanitary Pad Initiative” to improve menstrual health and hygiene among schoolgirls nationwide. The programme aims to empower girls through education on menstrual hygiene, promoting confidence, dignity, and uninterrupted school attendance.
Represented by the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the First Lady emphasized that no girl should miss school because she cannot afford sanitary products. Under the initiative, 370,000 schoolgirls in rural communities will receive a one-year supply of disposable sanitary pads, with 10,000 packs allocated to each state.
Speakers at the event, including Joy Okechukwu and Dr. Theodora Ngozika Igboaruka, stressed the importance of education on menstrual hygiene and the roles of parents, schools, and health workers in creating supportive environments. State officials, including Dr. Maureen Aghukwa (Commissioner for Women Affairs) and Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya-Uche (Commissioner for Health), pledged full support for awareness, distribution, and sustained advocacy.
The event concluded with the formal declaration and distribution of the sanitary pads, reaffirming a shared commitment to the well-being and empowerment of Nigerian girls.
