The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians that there will be no disruption in the electronic transmission of results during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the Citizens’ Townhall on the Electoral Act 2026 in Abuja, Amupitan said the commission has taken concrete steps to address the technical challenges that affected the 2023 presidential election. He expressed confidence that improved preparations, testing, and infrastructure upgrades would ensure seamless result transmission.
“The glitch is eliminated; by God’s grace, it will not surface in Nigeria,” he stated, adding that while delays were experienced in some past elections, there was no outright transmission failure in other polls.
He explained that legal provisions allowing alternative collation methods serve only as safeguards and do not indicate an expectation of system failure.
Amupitan also revealed plans for a nationwide mock presidential exercise ahead of 2027 to stress-test the result-transmission infrastructure at a national scale. He acknowledged that while perfection may be difficult, INEC is determined to significantly improve logistics, infrastructure readiness, and network reliability to guarantee credible elections.
