Arsenal restored a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League after defeating Chelsea 2-1 on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s defenders, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, scored the goals, taking advantage of Chelsea being reduced to 10 men after Pedro Neto was sent off in the 70th minute for a second yellow card.
Saliba opened the scoring in the 21st minute, while Chelsea briefly equalized via an own goal from Pedro Hincapie. Timber’s header after the hour mark secured the win, marking Arsenal’s 16th Premier League goal from a corner this season, equalling the competition record.
Chelsea had a late goal ruled out for offside, leaving Chelsea three points outside the top five, putting their Champions League hopes at risk. Arsenal, meanwhile, edge closer to a first league title in 22 years, with second-placed Manchester City still having a game in hand.
