An Iranian drone attack on the Al Salam Naval Base in Abu Dhabi, which hosts French forces, caused a fire but resulted in no casualties, officials from the UAE and France confirmed on Sunday. The strike comes amid a second day of Iranian attacks on Gulf countries following US and Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s supreme leader.
The UAE Defence Ministry stated that “specialised teams responded to an incident resulting from an attack by two Iranian drones on a warehouse at Al Salam Naval Base. The attack caused a fire in two containers of general materials, but there were no casualties.”
The base, also called Camp de la Paix, is Emirati but hosts French forces at the UAE’s invitation. French Defence Minister Catherine Vautrin confirmed the strike on X, noting that a hangar was hit, damage was limited, and no personnel were harmed.
“Our forces are on the highest state of alert in a situation that is changing by the hour,” she added.
