The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic management plan to facilitate the commencement of Phase I reconstruction and expansion of Ogunnusi Road by the Federal Ministry of Works in Ikeja Local Government Area.
The project covers the stretch from Ojodu-Berger Bus Stop to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound) and forms part of a broader 9.0-kilometre dual carriageway upgrade between both points (inbound and outbound).
The full project (Phases I and II) is scheduled to run from Friday, 6 March 2026, through Thursday, 6 January 2028, in different phases. Phase I will span 4.5 kilometres from Ojodu-Berger inward to Mobil Filling Station Junction (Ijaye/Agege bound). It will commence on Friday, 6 March 2026, and is expected to be completed by Saturday, 6 February 2027.
Traffic Diversions
To ensure smooth execution of the works, vehicular access will be restricted within the designated construction zone. The following traffic arrangements have been announced:
1. Motorists heading inward Ijaye/Agege via Ogunnusi Road (Ojodu-Berger):
Vehicles will be diverted to use a contraflow on the Ojodu-Berger-bound carriageway for approximately one kilometre before merging back onto the main carriageway.
Alternatively, motorists may use Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo Way to connect with Otunba Jobi Fele Way, proceed to Obafemi Awolowo Way, and then link Lateef Jakande Road to reach their destinations.
2. Articulated vehicles and trucks from Lagos-Ibadan Expressway heading to Agege:
Drivers are advised to divert through Ojota/Maryland, connect to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, proceed via Kodesoh Street to Oba Akran Avenue, link Guinness Roundabout to Ogba Road, then continue through Pen Cinema to reach their destinations.
3. Motorists travelling from Ijaye/Agege toward Ojodu-Berger:
Traffic will flow normally until the construction zone, where vehicles will be diverted into a contraflow arrangement with Ijaye/Agege-bound traffic for about one kilometre before regaining full access beyond the work area.
Emergency and Breakdown Management
To minimize disruption, emergency tow trucks will be strategically stationed along the corridor to provide rapid response and vehicle recovery services throughout the construction period.
Advisory to Motorists
Motorists are urged to remain patient, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the route. The temporary traffic measures are necessary to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the reconstruction and expansion works, which aim to deliver an improved travel experience for road users.
