The United States has destroyed the headquarters of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) while announcing the first U.S. military fatalities in the ongoing conflict aimed at toppling the Iranian government.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) shared footage showing missiles launched from a U.S. Navy ship striking the IRGC’s compound in Tehran. “America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters,” CENTCOM said.
The attacks follow a US-Israeli operation on Saturday that killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, sparking retaliatory missile and drone strikes from Iran across the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Israel.
The Pentagon confirmed that “three U.S. service members have been killed in action and five are seriously wounded,” with several others sustaining minor injuries.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched “large-scale” counterstrikes, while leaders including Ali Larijani and Masoud Pezeshkian vowed retaliation, calling Khamenei’s killing a “declaration of war against Muslims.”
In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of continued escalation, with the military mobilizing around 100,000 reservists. Gulf states have been caught in the conflict, with casualties reported in the UAE and other countries.
The conflict has left hundreds dead and injured in Iran, including top IRGC officials such as Ali Shamkhani and General Mohammad Pakpour.
