China on Monday urged an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic negotiations to halt the ongoing Middle East conflict, now entering its third day. The call comes as Israeli and US strikes continue against Iran and Lebanon, with the conflict spilling over to regional neighbors.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasized the need to “prevent the spread and spillover of conflict” and to seek “a resolution through dialogue and negotiation.” She confirmed that one Chinese citizen was killed in Tehran and that the embassy has been instructed to assist the family.
Beijing stated it was not informed in advance of the US strikes and, alongside Moscow, has urged the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session. More than 3,000 Chinese nationals have already left Iran, following warnings against travel due to the security situation.
