The National Police Council has confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP), with his name set to be forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier appointed Disu as acting IGP on February 25, 2026, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The President also pledged to convene the Police Council to formalize the appointment before transmitting it to the Senate.
Disu, 59, assumed office at a ceremony at Louis Edet House in Abuja after being decorated by the President. Before his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos.
Over his career, Disu has held several key positions, including Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. He also led the Intelligence Response Team and previously commanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in multiple states.
At his handover, Disu pledged to prioritize professionalism, modernization, and accountability, promising to deliver a more transparent and effective police force.
