The Nigeria Police Council has unanimously ratified the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as Inspector-General of Police (IGP). He is scheduled to be sworn in on Wednesday by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the Federal Executive Council meeting.
The meeting, held at the State House and presided over by President Tinubu, was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, among other top government officials.
Disu’s appointment follows the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Several governors and officials commended Disu’s track record, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who praised his leadership of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (2015–2021), and Nyesom Wike, who highlighted his effectiveness in Rivers State and later in the FCT Command. Abdullahi Sule and Peter Mbah also endorsed the appointment.
Born on April 13, 1966, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent. He has held several key operational and investigative roles nationwide, most recently serving as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit and Force CID Annex, Lagos.
