France captain Kylian Mbappé was in Paris on Monday undergoing treatment for a knee injury, though no surgery is planned, his entourage confirmed.
Real Madrid later announced that the forward has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee and will continue with a “conservative” treatment plan under medical supervision. Mbappé travelled to Paris accompanied by members of the club’s medical team for further evaluation aimed at optimising his recovery and preparing for his return to action.
The 27-year-old has been struggling with discomfort in the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025 and recently missed Madrid’s Champions League play-off second leg against SL Benfica due to persistent pain.
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa indicated that Mbappé’s recovery will take longer than a few days but expressed hope that the absence would not be prolonged. It remains uncertain whether he will be fit for the Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City, scheduled for March 11 and 17.
Mbappé, who has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances this season, is also a key figure for the France national football team ahead of upcoming international fixtures and the World Cup later this year.
