Turkey and Iran have mutually suspended same-day passenger crossings at their shared border, according to Turkey’s Trade Minister Omer Bolat, as Israeli–US strikes continue to target Iran.
Bolat emphasized that there is “no extraordinary situation” at the three crossings along the 500-kilometre frontier, adding that citizens and third-country nationals can still enter both countries.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also reassured that Turkey has not experienced any border security issues despite the ongoing conflict.
Iran’s neighbors remain concerned that continued strikes could destabilize the region, potentially triggering a surge of refugees. Turkey currently hosts over 74,000 Iranians with residence permits and roughly 5,000 refugees.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met with Azerbaijani and Iraqi counterparts to discuss strengthened regional cooperation along their shared borders with Iran.
