President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite in a cabinet reshuffle designed to reinforce the administration’s fiscal reform agenda.
Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial assignment under the current government. The President has formally transmitted Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Before his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led sweeping reforms aimed at restructuring and modernizing Nigeria’s tax system. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to sustain momentum in fiscal policy reform and revenue optimization.
A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, Oyedele is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In academia, he serves as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
If confirmed, Oyedele is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening fiscal governance, expanding the tax base, and advancing macroeconomic stability.
