President Bola Tinubu has formally sworn in Olatunji Disu as Nigeria’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Disu took the oath of office at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, shortly before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of six commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and two commissioners of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).
Background
- Disu was appointed acting IGP on February 25, 2026, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
- His appointment was endorsed by the Nigeria Police Council (NPC).
- He previously served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, and earlier as head of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Commitment
Upon assuming office, Disu pledged to deliver accountable, modern, and professional policing across the country.
The swearing-in was witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, SGF Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, NSA Nuhu Ribadu, Head of Civil Service Esther Walson-Jack, ministers, senior officials, and family members of the appointees.
