The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a temporary diversion of traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to enable urgent repairs on the Kara Bridge, outbound Lagos.
In a statement signed by Ogun State’s Federal Controller of Works, Olayiwola Komolafe, the ministry confirmed that maintenance work to replace damaged expansion joints will begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last two weeks, ending on March 24, 2026.
To ease congestion, motorists have been advised to use alternative routes:
- Travelers from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan should pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi.
- Those coming from Lagos Island are encouraged to take the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.
The ministry cautioned that “a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest,” urging drivers to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives, and exercise caution around the work zone.
Komolafe expressed regret over the inconvenience, assuring motorists that the repairs are critical for safety and will be carried out with improved traffic management measures. He explained that the expansion joints on Kara Bridge and other nearby bridges had deteriorated significantly, posing risks and contributing to accidents, hence the urgency of the rehabilitation works.
