Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have made multiple high-profile arrests and seizures across the country as part of intensified operations against drug trafficking and illicit activities.
In Lagos State, 45-year-old Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a former two-term councillor and current legislative aide, was arrested at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, where 40 kilograms of skunk cannabis were recovered. Olalekan admitted ownership of the drugs and property.
Other operations included:
- Abuja/Federal Capital Territory: 32-year-old Emeka Hyginus Okwor intercepted with 1,000 tapentadol pills hidden in baby diapers, destined for Gurara, Niger State.
- Kogi State: 1.55 kg of Colorado cannabis seized from Mey Ali Muhamat traveling in a commercial bus.
- Niger State: 500 pieces of improvised explosive device (IED) components found on a bus from Ibadan; recipient Osama Abdullahi arrested in Mashegu LGA.
- Adamawa, Delta, Ogun, Edo, and Edo States: Multiple arrests involving skunk, tramadol, methamphetamine, and codeine-based syrup, including large-scale seizures of cannabis farms in Edo.
The NDLEA continues its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, conducting sensitisation programmes in schools, workplaces, and communities across Oyo, Niger, Zamfara, Lagos, Sokoto, Ebonyi, and Anambra states.
Chairman and CEO Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for their efforts and urged continued commitment to a balanced approach combining enforcement and public awareness.
