Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the trial of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, to April 15.
The duo were arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on February 3 on a five-count charge bordering on alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN) informed the court that he had only recently received instructions to take over the case and requested more time to interface with witnesses. Defence counsel Shuaibu Aruwa did not oppose the application.
In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik granted the request and adjourned the matter to April 15 and 16 for trial.
The DSS alleges that Malami, while serving as attorney general in November 2022, knowingly abetted terrorism financing by refusing to prosecute suspected financiers whose case files had been forwarded to his office. He and his son are also accused of unlawful possession of a Sturm Magnum firearm, 16 live cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges at their residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, in December 2025.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty at their first appearance on February 3. The court subsequently granted them bail of ₦200 million each, with conditions attached.
