Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 15 male suspects for alleged involvement in illegal trading of radioactive solid minerals.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed this in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja. He said the suspects were apprehended on Sunday along the Suleja–Maji Road in Niger State while transporting the suspected minerals in three trucks to undisclosed destinations across Nigeria.
Oyewale added that the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation at the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Commission and will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
The EFCC has intensified its clampdown on illegal mineral dealings, citing the grave economic and security risks posed by unauthorized trade in radioactive substances.
