The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has urged banking customers to safeguard their financial information by never sharing their PINs, passwords, or sensitive banking details with anyone — not even individuals claiming to be bank officials.
In a statement released on its official X handle, the apex bank emphasized the importance of protecting personal data as the world marks Global Money Week 2026, an international campaign promoting financial literacy and consumer protection.
- Fraud Alert: Rising cases of scams and impersonation have seen fraudsters posing as bank staff via calls, texts, or emails to trick customers into revealing confidential information.
- CBN’s Advice: “Protect your money by protecting your information. Your PINs, passwords, and banking details should never be shared with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from your bank. Stay alert. Stay safe.”
- Global Context: Global Money Week is observed worldwide, including in Nigeria, with a focus on safe banking practices and financial education.
The CBN reassured Nigerians that vigilance and financial literacy remain key to protecting their money in today’s digital banking environment.
