The Anambra State Police Command has detained six officers attached to the Okpoko Division in Onitsha following allegations that they extorted ₦200,000 from a drinks seller using a Point of Sale (PoS) operator.
- Incident: A viral video showed the victim’s wife narrating how her husband was harassed, handcuffed, and forced to transfer money despite presenting valid vehicle documents after being stopped near the Upper Iweka axis.
- Extortion: The officers allegedly demanded ₦500,000 but eventually compelled the victim to pay ₦200,000 through a PoS operator in Okpoko.
- Detained Officers: Two Assistant Superintendents of Police and four Inspectors have been taken into custody pending investigation.
- Recovery: The extorted money has been recovered and returned to the victim.
- Next Steps: The Command has begun moves to arrest the PoS operator involved, citing possible conspiracy. Senior officers linked to the case have been queried, while statements from other ranks have been taken under caution.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga assured the public that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness and promised further updates as investigations progress.
