Following the non-sighting of the Shawwal moon in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, announced that the Ramadan fast will be completed as 30 days.
In line with this directive, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, urged Muslims across Lagos State and its environs to observe the decision.
As a result, Friday, March 20, 2026, will be marked as the 1st of Shawwal, signalling the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
Muslims have also been advised to observe Eid prayers at designated grounds in accordance with Islamic teachings. The Lagos Central Mosque will hold its prayers at Ribadu Road, Ikoyi, by 10 a.m., with worshippers in Lagos Island and nearby areas encouraged to attend.
The Chief Imam further called on Muslims to celebrate responsibly, show kindness to neighbours, and pray for peace and progress in Lagos State and Nigeria. He also offered prayers for the acceptance of worship and blessings for all faithful.
