The Senegal government has called for an independent international investigation into alleged corruption after the Confederation of African Football overturned their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 victory and awarded the title to Morocco.
The controversy began during the final in Rabat when Senegalese players briefly walked off the pitch in protest after Morocco were awarded a late penalty. Although captain Sadio Mane persuaded them to return, Morocco missed the penalty, and Pape Gueye later scored in extra time to secure a 1–0 win.
However, CAF reviewed the incident and ruled that Senegal had violated regulations by leaving the field, declaring the team forfeited and awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory.
Senegal strongly rejected the decision, describing it as unjust and damaging to the credibility of CAF. Government spokesperson Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye said the country would pursue legal action and seek justice through international bodies.
The Senegalese Football Federation has also confirmed plans to appeal the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Officials insist the decision undermines the integrity of African football and have vowed to challenge it through all available legal channels.
