Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with senior members of the British royal family, including Prince William, during his two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
The president and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in London on Tuesday and were formally received at Windsor Castle by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other senior royals. The visit marks Nigeria’s first state visit to the UK in nearly 40 years.
A state banquet is scheduled for Wednesday evening, where both Tinubu and King Charles III are expected to deliver speeches, with political leaders and notable figures in attendance. Due to the ongoing Ramadan fast, the president will not participate in the traditional luncheon.
The visit highlights the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK, with discussions expected to cover trade, security, and ongoing partnerships. Tinubu is also scheduled to meet Keir Starmer and engage with members of the Nigerian community in Britain.
Meanwhile, the trip comes amid security concerns back home, following recent attacks in northeastern Nigeria, prompting the president to direct security chiefs to take urgent action.
Nigeria and the UK continue to maintain a close relationship, strengthened by a strategic partnership agreement signed in 2024.
