The National Emergency Management Agency has engaged key stakeholders in Niger State on strategies to mitigate the impact of anticipated flooding.
Speaking at the National Disaster Preparedness and Response Campaign in Minna, the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said the initiative aims to strengthen resilience and improve response to flood disasters.
Represented by Dr. Ishaya Chonoko, she noted that the agency is working with data from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency to better anticipate rainfall patterns and flood risks for 2025.
She added that NEMA plans to deploy teams nationwide to sensitise flood-prone communities and deliver early warning messages at the grassroots, in collaboration with state emergency agencies and local committees.
Umar called on traditional rulers, religious bodies, youth and women groups, and the media to support the campaign, stressing that disaster management requires collective effort.
Also speaking, officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency and the state Ministry for Humanitarian and Disaster Management said the engagement would help develop effective solutions to reduce the impact of recurring floods and protect lives and property.
