The All Progressives Congress (APC) Aspirants Screening Committee has pledged a transparent and impartial process for vetting candidates for national offices ahead of the party’s upcoming National Convention this weekend.
Chairman of the committee and Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji assured journalists on Monday in Abuja that the exercise would strictly follow party guidelines and the Electoral Act. He emphasised that fairness, transparency, and justice would guide the screening of aspirants.
The committee’s Deputy Secretary, former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu, revealed that about 30 aspirants would be screened. To manage the tight convention schedule, the process has been divided into three groups, each overseen by designated panel members.
Co-chairman, Ahmed Ododo, highlighted the significance of the exercise as a test of the party’s internal democracy, describing the committee’s work as a “selfless service” to Nigeria’s political stability. Veteran figures, including Senator Ken Nnamani, are also part of the panel.
With the convention set for this weekend, the committee is expected to complete the vetting process within a one-day window, ensuring all aspirants are assessed fairly and in accordance with established party procedures.
