The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) has scheduled chairmanship and councillorship elections across all local government areas of the state for April 3, 2027.
Chairman Peter Singabele announced the date on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa, promising that the elections would be free, fair, and credible. He urged all registered political parties to conduct their internal congresses in line with the commission’s timetable to select candidates.
According to BYSIEC’s schedule:
- Notice of election takes effect from March 23, 2026.
- Collection of Forms F001 and F002: August 29 – September 9, 2026.
- Party primaries and resolution of disputes: September 11 – September 25, 2026.
- Submission of nomination forms: September 26 – October 3, 2026.
- Deadline for withdrawal or replacement of candidates: October 17, 2026.
- Publication of personal particulars of candidates (Form F001): October 25, 2026.
- Official register of voters: December 29, 2026.
- Release of nominated candidates: January 3, 2027.
- Voter education and sensitisation: January 5 – January 12, 2027.
- Submission of party agents’ names: Closes March 16, 2027.
- Campaign period ends: Midnight, April 1, 2027.
- Election day: April 3, 2027.
The commission assured stakeholders that it would collaborate with political parties, security agencies, and media representatives to ensure a smooth electoral process.
