The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students for submitting falsified admission qualifications.
The decision was reached during the university’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, after findings from the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities confirmed the misconduct.
According to an official statement in the university’s weekly bulletin, the affected students were discovered to have presented fake credentials during their admission process. The university noted that this violates its academic regulations, which mandate expulsion for such offences.
BUK explained that the students came from various departments and levels, adding that the move is part of broader efforts to maintain the integrity of its academic system.
In a separate case, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a Civil Engineering student, Yusuf Muhammad Sani, for allegedly assaulting invigilators during an examination—an act that disrupted the process and breached disciplinary rules.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement of its regulations, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on academic fraud and misconduct.
It added that the mass expulsion serves as a warning to both current and prospective students that violations of its rules will attract severe consequences.
