Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologised to Nigerians for the prolonged electricity outages affecting households, businesses, schools, and industries, especially during the intense dry-season heat. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Adelabu acknowledged the hardship caused by the disruptions but assured that the situation would improve within two weeks.
The minister highlighted that a dedicated committee has been set up to monitor gas supply commitments from producers to power plants, with repairs to critical pipelines, including facilities operated by Seplat Energy, underway. He explained that improved payment structures for gas suppliers would incentivize greater delivery, addressing one of the major constraints on electricity generation.
Adelabu stressed that while the sector faces systemic challenges, including gas supply disruptions, pipeline maintenance, and financial constraints, the government is actively implementing measures to stabilise the grid and restore consistent power supply.
