The Federal Government has set a March 31 deadline for the reopening of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades in the South-East under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, made the announcement during an inspection of the project in Enugu, expressing confidence that the once-dangerous highway is being transformed into a safer and more durable route. He noted that the road, previously plagued by tanker explosions, fatal accidents, and heavy traffic, is now undergoing significant reconstruction.
Umahi revealed that the 107km dual carriageway is being partly converted from asphalt to concrete pavement to improve longevity and reduce frequent repairs. He added that similar upgrades are being extended to sections in Anambra State, including the busy head bridge axis.
The minister emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to delivering key infrastructure projects ahead of May 29, assuring Nigerians that the era of persistent accidents and poor road conditions on the expressway is coming to an end.
