The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a State High Court over multiple corruption allegations.
El-Rufai is facing charges including abuse of office, fraud, attempted fraud, and conferring undue advantage, stemming from alleged financial misconduct during his tenure between 2015 and 2023.
The former governor was arrested on February 18, 2026, and after 34 days in custody, he was formally arraigned on March 24 alongside a co-defendant.
During proceedings, his legal team informed the court of a pending petition against the presiding judge before the National Judicial Council. The judge, however, proceeded with the arraignment and adjourned the case to March 31, 2026, for hearing of bail applications and other motions.
The case has drawn significant public attention, particularly following ICPC’s decision to grant El-Rufai temporary release on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.
Several prominent political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and other top dignitaries, have since extended condolences to the former governor.
The trial is expected to continue as the court considers bail applications and further proceedings.
